Bad Exam Blues

Have you taken an exam that you thought you did great on,but when you got it back, you realized you had completely bombed it? Or maybe you were just disappointed with your grade?  It’s happened to all of us at somepoint.

It’s okay.  You’re probably thinking “HOW IS IT OKAY?!?”

It’s not the end of the world. And once you realize that, you can start getting rid of your bad exam blues.

You will have other exams and the final; some classes also include a few homework assignments. These are all chances to improve your grade after a devastating exam grade, but you have to work hard!

The first thing you have to do is look over your exam and pick out all of the questions you got wrong, then figure out why you got them wrong. If the teacher does not let you keep the exam, look over it in class and then make an appointment with that teacher. The teachers here have office hours and appointments available just to help YOU! They want you to succeed and they are glad to help you.

Some of the questions you answered wrong were probably wrong because of a silly mistake you’ve made. Make note of those silly mistakes and make sure they don’t happen again!

Then there are the tough questions. Perhaps they’re the ones you made an educated guess on, or they’re questions that you had absolutely no idea how to answer. It’s important that you go over these questions with your teacher during your appointment. You must make sure that you understand the concepts and how to answer them correctly because they will probably be on the final too.

After you get all of your questions answered and you understand everything you got wrong on the exam, you should think about revising your study habits. Maybe you only studied the things you felt were easy, or only studied the night before? Perhaps you were watching TV while studying or eating food? It’s important to find out what study routine works best for you. You can even discuss your technique of studying with your teacher; they can give you some really good tips on how to study for their class!

Hopefully these steps will help you to do better on your next exam! If you have any questions, please leave a comment and I’d be happy to help. Good luck !!
