What to Eat and Where at Benedictine

What to Eat and Where at Benedictine

The three main places to grab some food here at Benedictine are the Krasa Dining Hall, The Coal Ben, and The Kindlon Café, all of which have plenty to keep your college appetite under control.

Krasa Dining Hall

Mmm Krasa! The Krasa Dining Hall on the second floor of the Krasa building has so many choices you might need more than one plate.  They serve all kinds of food, from salads to your basic pb and j, Krasa has what you love to eat. They serve the kind of meals your family would make; your favorite comfort foods and more!  I love Mexican food and boy, does Krasa deliver. They’ve made chimichangas, fajitas, burritos (yum!), and tacos. They offer plenty of vegetarian and halal options as well.  My personal favorite things to get in the dining hall are mac and cheese (it’s the best), pizza, lasagna, pasta, and their to-die-for chicken nuggets.  I know I left some things out, but that because I love everything and I’m trying to keep the list short. They also have a salad bar as well as a selection of fruit every day for those of us who like to eat healthy. My friends hit the salad bar every single day.   Krasa has two fountain drink machines, coffee, tea, juices, lemonade, and hot chocolate; everything to quench your thirst.  Did I forget to mention the dessert? Krasa is equipped with its own ice cream machine and dessert bar filled with all temptations imaginable (that’s where you’ll find me).

The Coal Ben

The Coal Ben is the oldest building on campus. It used to be where they stored the coal to heat the entire campus. The Coal Ben has been turned into a wonderful restaurant and awesome hangout spot.  Everything is made right on the spot with love.  The Coal Ben has the style of food that you would eat at Chili’s or Applebee’s.  they make really good burgers there, especially the Bunken Burger, which comes with cheddar cheese, BBQ sauce, onions, and BACON! My absolute favorite thing to get there are the chicken quesadillas. They come with a spicy pico de gallo salsa and sour cream; paired with my favorite drink, the Oreo blast, this meal will definitely satisfy your taste buds. All of the meals come with a side; my friends and I usually get the curly fries :). Some other favorites are the the chicken parmesan panini, the pizza burger, and the appetizer potato skins filled with sour cream, cheese, and green onions. The Coal Ben is constantly coming up with new specials to keep us college kids happy.  Last week they were selling tacos for $1! They sometimes ask what kind of specials we would like to see added to the menu, which is pretty sweet.  A recent special that I think sounds tasty is the Make-Your-Own Grilled Cheese Sandwich. You can customize it with chicken, onions, tomatoes, or whatever you desire. We all love to get the smoothies at the Coal Ben, they have so many flavors and you can even personalize it just the way you like.  My friends and I discovered the delicious chocolate milkshake there, but we ask for added Irish cream so it’s not your average milkshake. And for all those coffee drinkers out there, the Coal Ben makes Starbucks too!   I love the atmosphere of the Coal Ben. It’s the perfect place to hang out with your friends over a cup of coffee or even to hit the books before you take your big exam. It’s great to go to on the weekends as well; it has 2 TV’s and a large projector, so it’s perfect for watching the Bear’s game with your buds.

The Kindlon Café

Located on the first floor of the Kindlon Hall of Learning, the Kindlon Café has everything you need when you’re on the go.  This snack bar style café has a wide selection of beverages including orange juice, coffee, energy drinks, juice, and much more. They have a variety of muffins, pastries, donuts, candy, and ice cream for when you’re looking for something sweet. They also have deli sandwiches and pb & j’s, yogurt, parfaits, fresh fruit cups, apples, bananas, and anything you could possibly think of. The Kindlon Café is the perfect place to go if you missed lunch, if you’re on the go, or even if you’re just looking for a quick snack. My personal favorite is the chocolate chip muffin paired with a Starbucks vanilla frappecino. (I don’t even like coffee, but somehow my friend got me hooked).
